DOVER Town Council has teamed up with the town branch of Kent Greeters in a project top promote the town.
The aim is to create a team of dedicated Dover greeters who will work in pairs to patrol the town centre giving assistance and information to residents and visitors.
They will wear a distinctive uniform and carry Shop Watch radios and maps. As well as giving directions, promoting attractions and assisting shoppers with problems, they will discourage antisocial behaviour by giving out cigarette and chewing gum pouches and dog mess bags.
The project is being supported by Burnham House Vets and Dover Partnership Against Crime.
Community and Services Committee Chairman Councillor Sue Jones said: "It is essential that all users of the town find it safe, welcoming and open for business.
"These volunteers will be very visible and offer a friendly face that can provide assistance on the spot. If you have a couple of hours to spare and a passion for Dover we would love to hear from you."
Volunteers are needed to offer at least two hours a week to the project from June this year, full training and support will be given.
Application forms are available from the town council offices in Biggin Street or at
