John well done for that, a real success story. Howard I think John was just highlighting one particular instance of a job done well, I'm sure there are others.
I go through Tower Hamlets and St Radigunds twice a day in my job. I have to say that every day I see the PCSOs and the community wardens walking around and talking to people. I was impressed by the high profile of these people and thought how reassuring it must be for the locals to know they are around. As John says, people will talk more to people in authority that they know and trust than maybe the police. I also think a lot of people fear repercussions if they report crime to the police whereas a chat with a PCSO 0r warden may be more intimate and low key.
I hope for all the residents sakes that more success stories happen and good luck to all involved.
