anyone heard of this?
apparently 26 schools in kent use this and issue supermarket style reward cards to pupils who have good attendance records and do their homework.
when they build up enough points they can qualify for an i pod or something else they desire.
a group called the "campaign for real education" say this is discriminatory, i cannot see a problem myself.

(Almost) anything that gets children to attend school regularly - as they should and do their homework, must be applauded, but it's when it looks like bribery, to do what they should be doing anyway, is questionable - isn't it ?

i would imagine this is only being implemented in schools with bad ofsted reports roger.
i agree the method is questionable but the ones who don't turn up regularly may get envious of the other ones getting goodies and change their ways accordingly.

Maybe the vouchers should be issued for non-attendance with the intention of taking Mum & dads I-pod/ I-phone off them for not encouraging the child to attend regularly ?

Yes Howard, I have heard of this scheme and apparently it works extremely well across the board, particularly as you say in bad Ofsted report schools. I personally don't see any harm in it at all, if it encourages children to attend school regularly and study hard. After all there is nothing like a good education and if that's what it takes then where's the harm especially if some parents are not up to the job of making sure their child behaves well at school.

surprised you have heard of the scheme colette, i keep my ear to the ground but this was the first i knew of it.
26 schools is not a lot for a county the size of kent, maybe the scheme could be balanced with lesley's idea?
would be self financing then.
