  Council Tax decision
  
  "The average total Council Tax bill for households in Dover District is to increase by 1.06% for the next financial year. Dover District Council agreed Council Tax levels at a meeting yesterday (Wednesday 6 March 2013), and confirmed that the District Council part of the bill is to increase by 1.86% - an increase of 6p a week for Band D properties.
  
  The average total bill for a Band D property in Dover District for 13/14 will be £1,484.49. This includes the element of Council Tax for Kent County Council (£1,047.78), Dover District Council (£167.49), Kent Police (£141.47), Kent and Medway Fire and Rescue Service (£67.95), and an average for Town and Parish Councils of £59.80.
  
  Dover District Council has one of the lowest Council Tax Band D rates in Kent. For more details, please see the Budget report on the DDC website at www.dover.gov.uk (click on agendas and minutes, then Council for 6 March).

  Deal and Dover Town Council precepts have gone up by serious amounts; 27% and 34% percent I believe - I may have that 1 or 2 points out, but it's close.

  blimey they are massive rises i can only assume that the town councils have taken over tasks previously carried out by the denizens of the district council.

  Empty properties will be liable to pay council tax even if they have no furniture.
  Hopefully, this will release many empty properties onto the rent market, bring down the overall cost of rent, and make the DDC core strategy become out of date, as the Authorities will then see that we have an abundance of vacant houses.
  
  This was one sensible policy that DDC introduced.

  The law on the latest council tax increases is from Parliament, Howard, but the district councils were given the opportunity to decide how to make the ends meet.
  The law required, however, that people drawing a pension be excluded from any such increases.
  
  DDC made a good decision in requiring the payment of council tax on empty properties even if unfurnished.
