Time to make my usual well trodden speech. This viewing figure is just for the Forum section alone.The other sections have their own individual numbering counters usually at the top right of every page.
The Forum part of the site was only started in March 2008.
When we opened this new version of the site we had decided to leave forums behind us permanently as they were just too aggravating to do...we had run one for years previous to this date. We opened up with this new site, or more accurately this new version of the site, built by Chris Tutthill around mid 2007 after the previous version broke down and was scrapped. But we decided just to have a small guestbook at that time in place of a forum. This guestbook started to pick up posts and fairly fast it morphed into a Letters Page.
This Letters Page collapsed under spam in the end, it became impossible..try as we might.. to protect it. At that point in 2008 we made a little Forum for the guys who were contributing to the Letters Page so that they would have somewhere to express their views. The difference with the new forum was that it was to be closed ie not open for instant membership. So it was exclusively for members only, those who applied, in an effort to limit the pointless and sometimes overwhelming messing about by the anonymous.
We werent sure if this would work out. Individuals would be named and accountable...but it has worked out quite well. Its been a good club and is still going well despite the huge changes we have seen on the WWW since the early days of doverweb...such as the arrival of Facebook.
The clubhouse idea protects the members and hopefully allows all to post in peace..thats what we aim for.
We appreciate all the help we get from the members who post everyday. We always need this help.
