VICTORIA PARK PLAY AREA
An exciting and creative new-look play area for Victoria Park in Deal was officially opened today, (14 March).
The play area has been redesigned with new equipment and features, and the high quality design was developed in consultation with the local community. New equipment includes challenging items for older children, such as massive climbing blocks, and a range of play opportunities for young children, with slides and a seesaw. The area also includes sensory items such as drums and tubular bells.
The area was developed in partnership with the community through a series of consultation events, carried out by the Kent Children's Fund Network on behalf of Dover District Council. The new play area has been funded using money from the Government's Playbuilder scheme, which is distributed by Kent County Council, as well as funding from DDC, Deal Town Council, and planning agreements for the area.
This follows extensive renovations at Kearsney Abbey, Russell Gardens, Pencester Gardens, Marke Wood, Connaught Park, Elms Vale, and the Butts play areas. The work is part of DDC's commitment to develop strategic play areas across the district.
Cllr Sue Chandler, DDC Cabinet Member for Community, Housing and Youth said: "We are delighted to open another exciting play area, and would like to thank all the local children and members of the community who helped us with the design."
Cllr Nigel Collor, DDC Cabinet Member for Access and Property Management said: "We are very pleased to launch this innovative new play area. This is another great example of how we are working with our partners in the community for the benefit of the district."
Cllr Ben Bano, Deal Town Mayor, said: "We are delighted that the Town Council has been able to support this project with £25,000 from the Council's budget. We hope this new amenity brings pleasure for both residents and visitors alike."
