"Sad to report, my good friend Vic Matcham was rushed into William Harvey Hospital yesterday afternoon with a suspected heart attack, having collapsed at home around lunchtime.
He had been relaying a path in his back garden yesterday morning but had stopped because of the heat in order to rest - in fact I think he'd called it a day because it had been too much for him, and when he rang me just after noon he said he didn't think he'd be doing any more that day. Shortly after ringing me he complained about not feeling too good, and after that collapsed in his chair. The ambulance was called, and both the first responder and the paramedics took about an hour to revive him before he was rushed off to WHH.
Michelle and I went over to Ashford yesterday evening and, although we didn't see him, Michelle spoke to him on the 'phone and found him in good spirits; Lesley said that he was feeling a bit better but quite tired. He's in the cardiac ward (Cambridge K Ward) and being constantly monitored. I have no news to report this morning except that the ward Sister said he'd had a restful night. His condition is reported as not being life threatening, thank God, but perhaps will serve as a warning to Vic that he needs to slow down.
My mother-in-law is taking Lesley to see him this afternoon and I shall, of course, pass on any news to you as soon as I have any to report. I'm sure that all will wish Vic a full and speedy recovery - I know that not everyone gets on well with Vic, but he is a decent and honourable man and I hope you will all join me in wishing him the very best."
