It makes me think of Alexander the Great's brother who, after Alexander's unexpected death, was acclaimed king by the Macedonian Army in Babylon.
A small group of advisers, including his young wife, had to whisper to him what to say and what to answer when speaking to the soldiers in assembly.
At first they all thought he was a man of few words and respected him.
But apparently, he said to them at one point: "if I don't know what to say, Eurideka will tell me".
The whole platea, after the initial shock, roared with laughter. They had sussed him out.
