A good book is "Royal Visitors at Dover" published by John Mowll in 1936, a surprising number of Royal have been to the town over the years.
Queen Victoria was also in Dover on 14th November 1842 when she went with the Prince Consort to Walmer Castle as a guest of the Duke of Wellington. They went by carriage (again at short notice to the town) to admire the views from the Castle, then down Castle Street , Bench Street, Snargate Street, along the seafront, Woolcomber Street and back up Castle Hill to a gun salute from the batteries
