Vandalism on the heights
- 11 July 2012 14:04182356was told by paul sampson earlier about a wave of vandalism over last weekend, the worst part being a kissing gate set alight.
there were indications in many places of fires being lit.
i took these outside the 5 a side football pitch, both suggest that the someone left in
in rather a hurry.
first the jacket left behind.
then we have this can of export lager ring pull intact so not a drop has been drank though i will remedy that later.

not normally a lager drinker but thought it would be insulting to waste it.
just to stress the importance of the koniks grazing the heights, just look at the length of the grass here, the poor devil must have had grass so far up his nostrils his brain would have been scratched.

- 19 July 2012 17:45183584the problem is that the area is impossible to police properly paul - far too large and even a police patrol car would see next to nothing.
it is down to those of us who use it to be extra vigilant and encourage others to do so.
i make a point now when i see someone up there to advise then that most gates have phone numbers to ring in the event of criminal damage/ dogs disturbing the animals etc.
if there was ever a chance of a cctv camera being put up there it would have to be drop redoubt road in my view.
not just to protect the fortifications but to stop fly tipping and illicit parties that clearly happen there. - 19 July 2012 18:51183598Goes back to a permant presence that creates security and managed the site (all 250 acres of it) properly....
Convert cameras have been tried in areas in the past, but they are limited with the time they can run and very pot luck that you catch anything as it is so sporadic

any parents of youngsters that are out every evening and come back late i would urge to ask question of them. - 14 November 2012 18:13201391More targetted than that I think Howard - an extremely heavy and well attached plate that would have needed a lot of effort to remove... but bothing touched inside as far as we can tell.
Still probably cost EH £1k to replace what with the manpower and logistics needed
