23 September 2011 08:55127825Many years ago when we both a lot younger than we are now, Graham Tutthill and myself played a little game. When the new telephone directory came out we would scan through it to see how many mistakes we could spot.
Thus it was that when the new Thompson Local dropped on to the doormat I couldn't resist reviving an old pastime. I didn't need to look far.
Inside the first few pages are some items of information for Canterbury and Dover including street maps.
Under useful numbers, Medway Maritime is listed as the nearest A&E hospital to Canterbury. Dover is fortunate in having both Medway and Southend as the nearest.
And our local police station? PODPOL in the Eastern Docks.
You couldn't make it up.

Just goes to show though these things arent local at all. I dont know offhand who publishes Thomsons Local but it is probably an international conglomerate.
Southend Hospital, wouldnt fancy going there in an emergency. Ive had a few emergency trips in ambulances over time, mostly due to motorcycle mishaps on the Queens Highway...but I'd have been well dead before I reached Southend.
