Urgent Appeal for Volunteer Drivers
The Volunteer Transport Service is urgently looking for more Volunteer Drivers to help people in the Dover District get to essential medical appointments. Throughout the difficult winter months many people in the community find existing public transport difficult to access, our Transport Service fills this gap and last year helped more than 1400 people, making over 12,000 journeys.
The service helps transport people for a wide range of journeys, including hospital and other medical related appointments, education, leisure, and essential shopping trips. " As the winter months now approach, we urgently need Volunteer Drivers to help us and individuals in the community get through the winter and attend those essential medical appointments" said Karen Steffan, Transport Coordinator for the Service.
If you have your own car, some free time and are looking to help others across the Dover District we would love to hear from you.
Volunteer Drivers are never out of pocket as fuel expenses are covered at 45p a mile. Volunteer Drivers need to be:
• Friendly and approachable
• Have their own car (clean, insured and MOT'd) and a relatively clean driving license
• Be willing to help others
• Have some free time
Our Volunteer Drivers all have different reasons for giving up their time. Some enjoy getting out and about and meeting people; others want to give back to the community and some drivers just enjoy driving. John Hookham who enjoys helping others and giving something back to the community said that "driving has helped me get back to living and enjoying my life...I just want to give something back to the community and by driving people to hospital appointments and to other venues, is something I can do, that I think is very worthwhile".
If you can spare a few hours and want to help those in your local community get in touch today! Call Karen Steffan on 01304 380513 or email
