As a child I always considered Deal the poorer cousin to Dover, Deal always seemed old fashioned and scruffy. Many were grateful for our modernised town centre and market square with chain stores selling 'stuff on the tv ads'!. Now I would say the reverse is true, Dover is scruffy and unkempt and most definitely dated, filled with empty units that even big brands can't sustain. Deal, on the other hand is quaint and the shopfronts are appealing and are most remain independents. Dealites once complained that DDC neglected them, yet I bet they now count themselves lucky, Deal thrived because of their lack of involvement.
