    Very good Tom.

From Sheila's posting about a new fountain in the Market Square, it would appear that they (DTC) are thinking and talking about taking over responsibility for a water feature there.

If this is the case, then good luck to DTC and hope their talks come to fruition very quickly.
The current fountain is over 30 years old and as has been mentioned on here a number of times, has some quite delicate water pipes/spouts.

Everytime it is turned off/on, it weakens it, everytime it is dismantled it is weakened even more.
There are many, many events scheduled for next year from around May to September and such an amount of events means that it will be knackered/nfg by the end of the season if it was turned off and on for each event.

It looks like Dover will be blessed with events next year, whether for the Queen's Diamond Jubilee celebrations or the LOCOG's Olympic Torch events.
DDC and LOCOG are working very closely with each other to ensure that every event will be organised perfectly - and safely too.

I have been assured that there is no intention to do away with the fountain, but if talks between the Town and District Councils continue and do come to fruition, a new feature could be in place much sooner than we think.

    Good Luck to both parties.

    Roger
