    Fortress Dover Community Remembrance Concert
    Saturday 25th November 2017
    4pm-5.30pm
St Mary’s in Castro, Dover Castle
Fortress Dover and Maddie4Music present a free community concert for remembrance featuring a new community choir.
Members of the local community have come together over the summer to form a new Dover Castle Choir under the expert direction of Maddie Cordes and Pam Mudge-Wood of Maddie4Music to rehearse songs for an event aimed at commemorating the First World War.
Maddie and her team have also put together a wonderful programme of authentic additional acts on a WW1 theme to support the choir in what promises to be a moving concert.
Music from all genres will be included from a rock band performing Us and Them from Pink Floyd, the classic “Sing" written for the Military Wives Choir by Gary Barlow and Andrew Lloyd Webber with pipe and drums, to a violin solo of The Lark Ascending written by Vaughan-Williams during the war, solos from genuine wartime singers and wartime singalongs for the audience to join in.
The concert will be MC’d by Gary Cordes who is well known in the local community as a singer and presenter for events and in care homes and even as a DJ on Dover community radio. 12 children from local Dover primary school St Richards have been working hard under Pam's leadership since September and will join the concert to sing their own songs including a wartime medley as well as joining in with the choir and soloists for some of the songs.
A poetry competition on the themes of Recruitment, War, Loss, Death, Hope and Peace has also been launched by Maddie4Music for adults and children with the winning entries being read at the concert. We are delighted that Frances Fyfield, famous crime author living locally in Deal, has agreed to join the judging panel together with Graham Hutchison, the Chairman of the Friends of Dover Castle and members of the reading group of Bradfield Residential Home in Walmer which Gary leads.
Tickets are free and to ensure we have enough seats available we ask that you email your intention to attend, with the number of tickets you require, to the Community Events Coordinator on Vicky.fannon@english-heritage.org.uk
