22:4239050No this is not a footy posting but one on tonights town council meeting.
Of course the issue of the toilets came up, and where as in the past there has been divisions, tonight we saw D Hannant and G Cowan not at logger heads but agreeing with each other, so much so they were nearly inviting each other round for tea!!!!!
The most important point(and one iv been raising on here for some time) came from indy cllr MORGAN who asked directly cllr cowan, HOW CAN ONE OR TWO PEOPLE MAKE A DECISION WITH NO REFERENCE TO ANYONE
Gordon did explain the mistakes on not fighting against an undemocratic cabinet system,
And officers are able to close toilets if on a temparary basis, but no one has denied that this decision was signed off by one politician, with no paper trial through cabinet, therefore unable to be scrutinised and both cabinet and back benchers(or rest of council)no part in that decision making.
Was nice though to watch D Hannant/Cowan best of pals working for Dover

22:5239053I thought the whole of DTC acted properly tonight Keith, but as they have not been given the complete numbers from DDC it is only logical answer is to set a working party,to investigate the cost of the Toilets and the Tourism that DDC have washed thier hands off.The problem is the cost could be either £0 up to £100,000 and that is a BIG problem.
If you knew what I know,we would both be in trouble!

22:5839057As I said Howard the Town Council can not make a decision until they have all the facts and numbers and at 4.15pm today Cllr Hannent recieved some of the numbers they had been after, but as I understand it not all of them.
It seems as if DDC aren't that keen to give figures as it seems to me they don't know what they are either

09:3839065Jeeez Keef I nearly missed this one because of the UNITED headline. I thought...its just another football thread! There are so few viewers on the thread on account of not getting the right headline. I always feel the bog standard headline is always best
Must have toilets in it
"Toilets still Blocked!" or words to that effect.
But yes after initially thinking they were re-opening now it seems the re-opening is packed with provisos, and all is getting more confused than ever. It seems we are back to square one. The toilets will re-open if the Town Council can find the money. If thats wrong can someone clarify...if anyone notices this thread of course!

10:0839066Paul you are not the only confused person .All DDC councillors voted for the motion as set out in our agenda .This was put forward by the Labour group. The understanding was that the toilets would be reopened if DTC continued negotations with DDC .Now to get those toilets open it means A delegation from DTC meet with the Leader of the Council ,a senior officer and probably Nigel.
When some councillors wear two hats I cannot understand how they cannot report back what was voted on at DDC .
It is very clear to me and for the sake of the public I would have expected a delegation from the town council knocking on the door at Whitfield .
DTC have been given the figures for the cleaning of the toilets and from the figures because if you read carefully each toilet is different and that must be the water usuage etc is included..Not responsible for the upkeep of the building just the day to day running .Now that is less than River have todo as we have to maintain the building .
IT is so simple .There is an open door at Whitfield .I saw the recommendations put to DTC councillors and I would have expected a clear decision would have been made
A political game is being played and quite honestly it stinks
Those toilets could have been reopened today .Its time the plug was pulled on this .
My colleague was reported as stating ,acting like responsible adults .

14:5339074Am I seriously to understand that a delegation has to go cap in hand to the very person who closed the damned things in the first place to see if he'd be so good as to reconsider opening toilets that shouldn't have been closed in the first place? It beggars belief, it really does.
I read a letter on the open page saying that Cllr Collor doesn't deserve all this criticism, he does so much for Dover and is such a caring sort. Bo****ks. If he were so caring he wouldn't have shut them in the first, and then, realising the furore his actions caused, he should have the good grace to open them without question. Instead of which, we have this farcical rigmarole where the buggers who shut the toilets are being asked to reopen them, if they wouldn't mind terribly much, as if open toilets is a luxury benignly donated by some kind hearted philanthropist grandly looking down from above.
Forget your image of self-importance. Get the toilets open and then begin to think how you can possibly apologise profoundly enough to be credible for having held the people of Dover to ransom over such a personal and important issue. I've said it before, and I say it again now: the Conservative party I have supported almost all my adult life doesn't shut public toilets. This council, whomever is to blame, has brought shame on this town, and some members have no right to still be representing the town.
I don't care if Barry Williams, Paul Watkins, Roger Walkden or the whole damned Tory Party all the way to Westminster are queueing up to defend Nigel Collor, the whole thing makes Dover a laughing stock, and all our blessed council can do is to ask if he'd be so kind as to open the toilets up again. Pathetic, absolutely pathetic.
True friends stab you in the front.

18:0339082That is what we expected Andy and no they are not open,Howard it was not my meeting as it was a Town Council meeting and I went as an observer because I want to see the toilets reopened, but the numbers only arrived and only some of them that day.
I am sure David will bring us up to scratch when he can,but I do not want to upset the apple cart by saying too much,I have already got a Bo**ocking of Paul Watkins for venting my feelings on here, not that that bothers me I am on the Scruity Committee and it is mine and others job to look into Council,s decisions,
The problem with this one there was syill no paper work to Scruitnise.
As it is his job to back Nigel, and to be fair he has and that is good leadership,I don,t have a problem with that, and as you see on the front page about having a go at Nigel,I haven't done that and unlike Sue haven't asked for his resignation,as I said in an earlier posting that is a personal choice,I just want to see the toilets open now today and kept open while the talks take place.
If you knew what I know,we would both be in trouble!

18:0639083I was talking to the Captain of the Bowls club today(Dover) and they were doing some work on the green the other day,and he said there was a procession of men going to the toilets finding them closed and peeing in the bushes.Nice!

19:0539097Andy, so the 'whole thing makes Dover a laughing stock'.
Which just shows the thin line between 'having a piss' and 'taking the piss'?
