I still cannot understand why so many properties are left unoccupied and yet nothing is done to enforce the owners to either renovate, sell or let them.
I remember a very well known business man in Dover who would let his properties fall apart, holding many of them up with scaffolding, until he could obtain grants to do them up from DDC. He would then turn them into HMOs and charge extortionate rents, safe in the knowledge that once again he would find enough benefit dependant tenents to ensure his demands would be met and DDC/DSS would foot the bill. Tory principles at there best.
