Doesn't imply anything of the sort, Sid. It's simply an acknowledgement that a good number of UKIP supporters are disaffected Tories fed up with their views being ignored. All it would take to bring many back into the fold is for the Government to hold a referendum on continued membership of the EU; UKIP supporters are democrats, not anarchists, and if the result were a 'Yes' vote then I'd bet that many would rejoin Cameron's mob. The problem is that this Government, along with umpteen before it, are running scared of a 'No' vote.

As for the local elections, Vic, no decision has been made locally yet. I think that the locals could be an opportunity to try to win some seats so that we can try to gain some experience in our local politicians before the next GE. There are some national policies that could be applied to local policies, but largely UKIP policies are regional, national and European.

However, I believe Vic will want to stand if only to show that his fierce opposition to the sale of the Port remains undiminished - and why not? Can't someone who holds strong local views stand under whatever banner he chooses? Give me Vic any day over the majority of the wets at Whitfield who stand by and watch the town struggle on...........
