Sid, I don`t really follow your logic there. You imply that nobody wants a referendum apart from UKIP, but when the subject is actually brought to the fore then the people of this country DO want it. If this was not the case then how do you explain the results of the European elections last June when UKIP received more votes than Labour and the Lib-dems?
Furthermore, that result was achieved despite the "EU Question" being played down as much as possible by the other parties and UKIP getting their usual scant media coverage.
The answer really is quite simple, just give once and for all the British public a chance to voice their opinion in a referendum. If, as you reckon, people would vote to stay in then fair enough. UKIP as such would probably no longer exist and we could all concentrate on making the EU " better for all " which I presume you would be really pleased about?
Finally, you know only too well that UKIP`s poor showing in the General Election was primarily down to the fact that a lot of our votes went to the Conservatives by people who were not prepared to take a chance on letting Brown back in for a further term. As usual, the EU was barely mentioned, we had the X-Factor show on TV which excluded UKIP and the "economy" was pushed as the major issue.
