I believe that saying UKIP has had its day is premature. We'll have to see what voting reforms come out of this parliament; if some form of PR is the outcome, then all the minority parties will be dancing for joy as it will be the culmination of all their aspirations - the PR system is why UKIP has MEPs but no MPs and a few other minority British MEPs exist as well.

Whether you're for PR as it is seen to be more democratic, or whether you're against it because it reduces strong government, the fact is that we are moving inexorably towards reform of the voting system. Only if the first past the post system is retained in its current form is UKIP doomed; Lord Pearson said exactly that when he visited Dover in April. If PR is introduced, then I believe Sid and Barry have spoken too soon.
