Until UKIP win seats and shake off the notion that the party only flourishes briefly in mid term by-elections, then I'm afraid to say it is just a protest party for Tory voters disgruntled over Brussels. Every now and again UKIP flatters to deceive. You might remember a while back they were touting it large that Lord Hesketh had now joined and would make all the difference. What happened...not a jot of difference. The noble Lord made a TV appearance or two for max publicity then like dracula in the light of day, climbed back into his silent tomb.
They have one policy only.. EU disgruntlement.
But this, according to radio pundits yesterday, is a long way down the general voting agenda for most people. Most people are concerned about economics and jobs etc...and will therefore vote in General Elections for those they hope will give them better jobs and better economics.

However further rumours have reached the mill last night. Nadine Dorries, she of jungle jim fame, has not ruled out joining UKIP should the Tory whip be withdrawn from her this week. If the Tories dont withdraw the whip from her they will be seen as very weak indeed, as here is an MP who swanned off and left her Conservative constituents unrepresented in parliament while she pursued TV fame and fortune. So UKIP may have a bright new member by the end of the coming weak. An actual MP to boot ! But there you are...a home for the rejected and the disgruntled, but little else.
