  To give a personal opinion, if a party is doing well, there will inevitably be detractors who will try to sabotage its success.
  
  If you're campaigning in or for a party, the trick is to avoid debate with known detractors, and address the wider public.
  The reason being, even if you presented a bucket of gold, a detractor would call it quite something else.
  
  The wider public who rarely talks of politics could be interested if you have something interesting to offer.
