Yes Keith, and the vast majority did not turn out to vote.
One would have thought that Parliament's promise of localism 3 years ago would have seen masses of people participating in their community, but all we got was ..... cut budgets and austerity.
The turnout at these very important local elections explains how the majority of us replied.
We boycotted!

Alex's
If you don't vote or protest by spoiling you voting paper ,you cannot legitimately complain.
Non voters disrespect the men that battled for your freedoms to have a vote.

That would be entirely up to you Alexander but those that do not vote should not complain about those that get in. When my husband was fed up with the main parties he would vote for the complete outsider.

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

Exactly Jan, this is one of the main advantages of our current political system- entirely the voter's choice.

Ukip needs 24 per cent support to have just one MP after 2015 general election
One in four voters have to back United Kingdom Independence Party at the 2015 general
election to see just one MP elected, new research says.
The study from respected forecasters Electoral Calculus sets out the scale of the challenge
facing Nigel Farage to cement the gains made by his party at last week's local elections.
Analysis published on its website attempts to use last week's local elections in English and
Welsh counties and project forward to the likely 2015 general election.
It said: "We see that UKIP only gets its first few MPs at 24 per cent.
Even when it is the most popular single party, it can still win fewer seats than Labour."
It continued: "The short answer is that it is still very difficult for Ukip to win Westminster seats...
The results are quite striking: even at the (probably overestimated) support level of 23 per cent
, UKIP will still not win any Westminster seats at all.
"UKIP will only start to gain some MPs when their national support goes above 23 per cent."
Electoral Calculus said that Ukip would win enough MPs to form a Government if it won around
34 per cent of the vote.
Thank goodness they are only a protest vote...................

Every vote is a protest vote to one degree or the other. Conversely when to a large extent the old school lose out to a party with a radical mandate - why should votes cast for them be deemed a protest? Perhaps folks just think it would be a good idea to vote for them!
Therefore, how can the statement that UKIP's/Green's recent successes are only down to a protest vote be valid?
This appears to me to just be a big fat excuse made by the 'mainstream' parties for their institutionalised failings.
Electoral Calculus as you set out Reg - works both ways...
