they are hardly ever out of the news, the latest is about bonuses.
didn't seem that much of an issue, the maximum was £10,000 but charlie was horrified to learn that some were getting performance related bonuses.

i don't think this is really about bonuses keith, the top ones were only 10 grand i doubt anyone on the frontline got anything much if at all.
i see this as a chance for some public sector worker bashing purely to deflect attention from more serious matters.

So what did UKBA staff do to deserve or not do to deserve these bonuses? It is a cost centre, not a profit centre, so there was no excellent sales performance involved. Maybe the bonuses were awarded for cost savings while getting better personal and departmental performance at the same time. I do not know the answer and cannot comment approvingly or disapprovingly of these bonuses. Neither did I hear Charlie's comments so I cannot comment on those. I would presume his comments were based on fact and information, specially as he has rightly been supportive of local UKBA staff in the past.

I think we can be fairly sure that none of the bonuses were paid to Dover-based staff. Charlie has several local contacts in UKBA and we can therefore also be fairly sure that his comments are based in fact, not rumour.
