    Howard - it sometimes feels that way but we all have to accept that sometimes government need to make decisions in the interests of the nation and not in their narrow interests, at least as they the government sees the national interest that is. If governments just did what is popular among their supporters and the nation as a whole then the country would not be well governed. Hopefully though enough can be done that is popular to secure re-election and keep members happy. This is where the real world and compromise are important.

    Just to add to that. In situations such as now when there are two parties in coalition we get the worse of both worlds that satisfies no-one as far too many compromises are needed leaving the natural supporters of both parties out in the cold and often the national interest not served either.
