Town roads gridlocked this morning! BBC Radio Kent reporting that Channel Tunnel closed for freight due to emergency engineering works. With Seafrance still out as well, let the chaos begin!

Let's hope they get it sorted quickly, Howard! The Tunnel is still open for passenger traffic, but suspended for freight. Hence all the freight traffic heading for Dover, which is of course, running at reduced capacity because of the situation with Seafrance. Just goes to show how fragile our transport infrastructure now is.

Thanks for letting us know that Kevin. Was wondering what the sudden chaos was about. Trucks are queuing all the way up the main road up the hill beyond Aycliffe etc. Yes indeed our transport infrastructure is very fragile and very prone.. Here is a trucker reading War and Peace a few minutes ago while waiting on the main road..

I see...a flotilla of small craft, laden with the very best that Britain has produced, plying forth across the channel. "We shall freight them on the beaches..."

Ignorance is bliss, bliss is happiness, I am happy...to draw your attention to the possible connectivity in the foregoing.

Police presence at junctions with York Street and Leisure Centre appear to have got things moving again, although there is still a stream of traffic heading towards the docks. Hopefully the situation will continue to ease, and that the Tunnel will be back to normal soon.
As Paul states, I suspect we'll be seeing a re-run of this next Wednesday.

I trust that The Weigh Inn and other local eateries are out there with trays of sarnies & pies, pots of tea and empty water bottles. There is money to be made.
