courtesy of the independent, doubt if they will get any public sympathy.
London Underground workers are to stage four strikes - one on Boxing Day and three in the new year - in a dispute over bank-holiday pay.
Aslef has been seeking "adequate compensation" for working on Boxing Day. London Underground said the union's "outrageous" claim for triple pay and a day off in lieu of Boxing Day went against an agreement that all unions had signed.

train drivers (aslef) like the lib dems sold there souls some years ago
to enable drivers to get the wage of £45,000 yes i repeat £45,000
a lot of other valued jobs had to go.
being a sister union the railway employers thrived on causing unrest between the 3 rail unions of course it was in everyones interest to have just 1 union
but the three would never agree, thus the employers had a field day.
having sold everyone down the river now aslef has got over greedy
having been active at top level in one of the unions it was heartbreaking to see a union acting in such a way.
but the never the less you have to work with the tools you have and those who wish you not to reach those aims

they do seem a self centred bunch, boxing day is when people attend sporting events and go the sales.
i seem to remember they struck a deal not to strike during the olympics.

I think here howard there is a bigger picture here.
if you are just speaking about this one public holiday dispute then yes you are correct
but if your talking more about the union role/solidarity with other unions etc then the picture is far bigger

i don't see anything other than the behaviour of highwaymen keith.
their jobs are not under threat, no safety issues or differences over pensions.

Here's the big picture:
1. Most unions and shop stewards work tirelessly in the interests of both employees and their employers, and receive little or no recognition for a job well done.
2. Some unions get greedy and give all the rest an undeserved bad name.
Fire service and post office come to mind.....z

I also wondered what Peter meant by the last sentence.

I meant unions whose leaders live the champagne lifestyle while putting their hard working members in conflict with their employers.

Still a bit baffled by that statement
Peter, you have evidence that the fire brigade union alone does this???

I doubt that the Fire-Brigade Union are alone in their "Champagne Socialist" lifestyle Keith and their own political agendas.
I'm sure, as you implied, that there are quite a number of them.

Your post number 12 implies that you know they do Keith and that the Fire Brigade union are not alone.

I think being critical of some unions does not constitute being anti-union! Maybe I have missed something, maybe about free speech and the opportunity to challenge?

Actually Keith I picked out two unions, both of which have had adverse publicity after paying their senior people lots of dosh and lavish expenses MP-style.
