It sounds like an interesting ruse to have the latter half of the episode run in silence.
I dread to think what would happen today if such a thing were done. If all was not utter silence we would hear only how they were each ill treated by their nanny.
I don't think the present bunch could be accused of lying. They simply have no use for the truth.
