11:4772103The Thanet offshore wind farm is having the official opening ceremonies conducted today.
Pride of Burgundy has been chartered for the day and is doing two trips around the windfarm departing from Ramsgate. European Seaway berthed in Ramsgate the other day to check that Pride of Burgundy would fit in the berth as they share the same hull form.
Pride of Burgundy is presently taking VIP's and news crews around the wind farm and will do another trip this afternoon taking contractors and their families.

15:5672124I think it said on the radio today that this was the biggest windfarm in the world..with a hundred of the blighters whirring away and providing enough power for 200,000 homes. great stuff!
Thanks for that info Ed re the boat trips, fascinating.

17:1472127I don`t think many people will be quite as enthusiastic when the cost of these useless things start to filter through onto their electricity bills ( apart from Lib-Dems and Greens of course! )

17:3872131are there any figures avaliable as to the likely effect on our bills?
the start up costs, high wages to skilled staff and dividends to shareholders suggests that we could all be "well shafted".
