[Natalie Elphicke] says the gridlock highlights the need for upgrades to the Whitfield roundabout and A2" Hm. Yes, well, maybe at the margin. However, prevention is better than cure. What we're seeing is the traditional 'traffic is greater than ferry uplift capacity' syndrome and the usual problem of where to store the excess traffic, exacerbated by not spotting the problem before it took root.

What isn't going to help in future is Natalie's Guston site for customs clearance of outbound freight; what you want is traffic ready to go as soon as a ferry is available, not encouraging traffic to enter Kent and leave the uncertainty of clearance until it gets within spitting distance of the port. On a tiny site that has every chance of being oversubscribed and fouling up the second main route that avoids the town road network. It is island mentality of the worst kind in my opinion. And (for Ray's benefit) doesn't happen to this extent in the EU.
