  There is no doubt that brexit will cause local delays and exacerbate those caused by seasonal peaks and other incidents. Various national and local government reports are quite clear on the subject. A trade deal which obviates the need for tariffs will help in a small way but we are leaving the single market and the customs union with all that that implies. Smartfreight will help but the chances of it being in any way effective in time for 2021 are minimal. Dovorians need to get their heads around that, pro-brexit or agin it.
  
  It won't bother this government terribly because the seem to think it a price worth paying. Compared with the damage that will be done nationally it probably is pretty small beer anyway.
