At the risk of sounding like a real old fart, but my "school run" as a secondary student was, walk 15 minutes down the hill from my parents house, wait for a bus that sometimes never came, then when one did, travel in rush hour traffic for up to an hour, then walk for 50 minutes to get to my school.
My daughter went to secondary school in Dover, five minutes walk from my house and she was always asking me for a lift! (she only got one if I was going that way at the time!)
