Apparently this gantry was such that it denied entry to the docks until checked or repaired. Traffic quickly backed up and whilst most lorries were sitting in the nearside lane allowing local traffic along the outside, some foreign lorry drivers seem to delight in blocking the roundabouts. Give the Port of Dover police their due ( and I don't usually, as I usually blame them for causing any hold-ups!) but they were out on the roundabouts trying to keep them clear. Unfortunately there are more roundabouts than Police so as fast as they directed impatient lorries back towards Folkestone they only went as far as the next roundabout and clogged it all up there. Our tourist buses were stuck on the viaduct from the Cruise terminal preventing passengers getting in to spend their money in Dover! Whatever the problem was it was soon sorted but the traffic backs up so quickly it took a while to get back to "normal".
