    The Miner statue probably symbolises more about part of the past of this Town than the Louis Bleriot, Charles Rolls or the Mathew Webb Memorials do. These were three people who were famous for the acts they carried out and were great achievements of their time.

    However the coal mines were an active part of Dover's community that is no more and I see no reason why we can not be reminded of that community and the part they played in it.

    I think the sea front is a good a place as any to show that we were as proud of the Miners of our town as we are of those that made strives into the unknown such as flying and swimming the Channel.
