I recall a news item , some time ago, about a community who had a voucher I.O.U. system where local people offered their services in exchange for vouchers which could, in turn, be exchanged for others services. It seemed to be working well , saving people money and creating a real sense of worth to those 'older' members of the community who could help educate youngsters on a variety of skills both professional and practical i.e. exchange 6 hours painting and decorating for 6 hours babysitting / gardening / dressmaking.
If people wanted to Bank their credits together they could then nominate a worthy cause to benefit.
