    Wonder what the future holds

Things getting a lot worse in retail I suspect.

Commercial rents are typically paid quarterly and in advance, payment due on March 25 for period to June 24.

Rent payments for all sectors at the start of the quarter were 21% of amount owed.

    With retail businesses only 15%.

The important thing for us is for councils to keep well clear of getting involved.

Amongst John Lewis stores closing is the one in Sheffield.

Sheffield Council, realising John Lewis was having trouble paying rent, bought the building for £3.4 million six months ago with the brilliant idea (sarcasm) of making the lease more affordable to John Lewis.

They are left with empty premises and a £3.4 million debt on their hands.

Fortunately DDC are not that stupid.

    Or are they?
