18:0092078This would have caused a scary encounter if a vessel came across this beast. The torpedo was 20 feet long ( 6 metres in new money) and was found in the busiest of busy shipping lanes. The Dover Coastguard and the Royal Navy bomb disposal people were called out to deal with it.
I dont know how close the torpedo was to Dover but last night there was some heavy grade activity for hours around Shakespeare beach with a very large helicopter hanging above us and shining searchlights all around the beach and harbour wall area. It hung there above us in the sky for several hours. Whether the two incidents are / were related I dont know.
Any of the guys from Aycliffe will have seen and heard this Im sure and may know more.
Wasnt possible to get a picture as they will do these things at night...
