Tornadic Vortex as per frontpage.

  This might be one for the experts. Following along from the frontpage feature of a few moments ago I thought I would add the pictures here and see if anyone wants to comment.
  
  

  

  
  The above picture is the same as the one on the frontpage right now. It shows four vortexes ( is that the right plural?) if you look hard enough. I caught them towards the end of their very very short life swirling and swaying at midday yesterday and then they were sucked upwards into the cloud above in all cases...and they were gone.
  
  

  

  
  
  It all happened so fast that there was only time for one picture. The second picture here is a crop from the one above, showing a closer version of one of the mini tornadoes.
  
  As I asked on the frontpage did anyone else see anything..or even better still get a photograph?
  
  Would always be interesting to see.
  In the current peculiar weather pattern they might just return...so keep watching the sky.

  In very quick time I have had the following pictures in from Rhian Potts ( mike's wife of doverweb legend)...just as i was beginning to wonder if I had imagined the whole thing. These pictures would have been taken a short while before I clapped eyes on it all... Well done Rhian...brilliant and thanks for sending them in.

  The bottom picture is a cropped section from Image 2. These pictures show it closer to the earths surface than I saw it so i wonder now if it did touch down.

  I think these are called funnel clouds, great pictures the tv weather lot love showing odd cloud formations.

  Oh my goodness - these are brilliant! Reckon Jan has got it - funnel clouds. They becopme tornados if they touch the ground. Excellent images and I'm jealous I didn't see them!

  Thanks for the information there Jan..glad you liked them Phil certainly quite something. I myself dont know much about the phenomenon but will keep an eye out for further dramatics as weather acting bizarre. Howard you usually see all with your camera...our roving eye...lol!

  Glad I was right (makes a change). When they hit the water they become the water spouts that are quite often seen in the Channel. I really think Paul and Rhian should send them to Meridian or BBC Weather as I said earlier they often show odd cloud formations.

  lol!! Jeff..yes quite clearly similar in structure to a Chrono Synclastic Infundibulum. But alas....No further infundibulumisation today..different cloud pattern altogether. Pity, as am poised and ready.. akin to a greyhound awaiting the arrival of the hare...

  They're also called twisters, but don't tend to strike the British Isles in their gigantic form.
  A few weeks ago a couple of giant twisters struck Poland and several houses were demolished within an instant of being hit, and whole trees uprooted.
  
  Although the one in pic 2 does look like the Genie leaving the bottle, so who knows what it will be up to
