10:2830839Liam Fox said the Tories may consider selling off the Met Office along with scrapping 22,000 jobs in the MOD should they get into power in order to save cash.
22000 families on the dole and another British institution, the Met Office, probably sold off into foreign hands.

11:1730845Marek - I watched that interview too is this is a classic example of you completely misrepesenting what was said.
Yes, Liam did say the Met Office could be privatised. You are jumping to the conclusion that it would be sold to foreigners, your assumption only. He also said that all aspect of the MoD operations should be examined and said that 25% savings in costs could be achieved. He did not say there would be 22,000 redundancies, it was the interviewer who said that and Liam corrected him. The fact is that the costs savings need not all be from job losses, as Liam said.
A freeze on recruitment should be brought in immediately (except for the Forces themselves, that is) that will minimise any job losses.
Thanks to Labour's incompetence there must be big savings made in public spending whoever wins the election.
Really, Marek, you damage your own credability by making such silly and inaccurate statements.

All I have done is try to put into plain english Liam Fox govt speak.
"May sell" = if there is not too much public outcry therefore = will sell
25% of 88,000 jobs =22,000 jobs gone whichever way you tart it up.
I admit that I jumped to the conclusion that another foreign company may buy the Met Office but if I were a gambling man I would place a bet on it happening.
As for my credibility I never had any to begin with and as for me being silly that's a foregone conclusion and very accurate.

12:1230856Marek - your maths may be correct but the assumption the there will be 22000 redundancies is simply wrong.
We have to face the facts, regardless of the above, that there will be a big reduction in public sector jobs, that is inevitable with the large scale shrinking of the State that needs to be done. This is why there must a public sector recruitment freeze and the sooner the better. We need a big shift in employment towards the private sector wealth creation sector. We have seen over the last 12 month 1m jobs lost in the private sector while 300,000 have been created in the public sector. This is totally unsustainable economically and must be reversed.

12:5930864it would have to be sold off to a foreign company, we all know over here how useless they are.

13:3730865Just because it isn't explicit that an overseas company would buy it doesn't mean it wouldn't happen. I don't recall anyone saying "we intend to sell our utilities to foreigners"!!!!!! And Marek is, as usual, right - it is a toe-in-the-water job of seeing if we will revolt if it is sold off. We really should be more revolting than we are. We. us, the proles, are being royally shafted by our governors and we just sit here on our keyboards!! Me included, I hasten to add.
Having said that, keyboards and words are effective.
