Good Morning
In today's newsletter, we have information on the Olympic events that will take place in Dover next year and the Heritage Open Days that take place next week-end.
The Olympic Torch Relay is coming to our district on Wednesday the 18th and Thursday 19th July 2012. The highlight will be an Olympic Torch Evening Celebration Event on the seafront on the Wednesday evening.
The evening event will have very much a youth focus, with local schools involved and a big name artist performing. The event will be televised nationally (and possibly internationally) and as this is one of only three events in Kent, and by far the biggest, attendance will be not only from our district, but from across East Kent and possibly even further afield.
The London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games (LOCOG) will be providing the stage, video screens, master of ceremonies and the headline act for the evening event.
The Council's responsibilities will be with multi-agency partners (Police, Fire and Rescue, Ambulance, KCC etc), including organising the evening event and ensuring the safety of those attending.
A project team of DDC and multi-agency partners has already been formed to work on the detail, which the Chief Executive of Dover District Council, Nadeem Aziz, is leading.
This will be an exciting and high profile couple of days for the District, forming part of the Nation's overall Olympic Celebrations. Further details on this will follow over the next few months.
