the taxpayers alliance have published figures show 31 individuals at k.c.c. earned over £.100,000 in the year 2009/2010.
only cornwall and newcastle upon tyne exceeded this with 32.
the highest paid in maidstone in the same period was mr gilroy who pocketed £.299,582 in pay and perks.

It gets funnier and funnier.
I read of one chap who left his job at the top of one council with a final salary pension (££££). One condition that attached was that if he ever again worked in the public sphere and his pay & perks were more than his pension he would lose the extra pound for pound.
He is again working in the public sector at a salary (& perks) that exceeds his pension. What does he do? He becomes a his own consultancy firm...hey presto. "That'll do nicely."
Ignorance is bliss, bliss is happiness, I am happy...to draw your attention to the possible connectivity in the foregoing.

Keith I agree wholeheartedly. Investment-banker-style remuneration packages have no place in the public sector whatsoever.

What is wrong Keith is for governments to get involved in the remuneration of the private sector which is a matter for the markets and the businesses concerned. The public sector being paid for out of our taxes is another matter.
Good luck to anyone who manages to earn £millions a year whatever they do (legally), the more the merrier as long as we dont pay for it out of taxation. Yes, I even include pampered film star 'luvvies' and footballers however little interest I have in them.
