on the hottest weekend of 2012 and the football season starts , is t tooo early .
i was sure in the old days as the cricket season finished mid september , then football started
i would have liked the season to start after the end of paralymics
case for an early start ----- look at the arsenal gate figure ----- sell out at 60,000
i looked up a famous charity shield match ( the only one that has benn memorable ! )
when kevin keegan and billy bremmer had a dis-agreement---- it was 1974 and thinking the date back then was the middle of september i was surprised to find the date was 10th august !!!!!

I thought the season started in September as well Ron but on another thread Howard said I was wrong and it has always started in August.

There is hardly any break at all now with pre season friendlies starting in early July! no chance anymore of excelling in cricket and football as used to happen years ago.

I do like the both of them, infact I am trying to get a parish council to buy and set up some cricket nets for the local teams to use on a all year round pitch.I will let you know how we get on with that,I know the costs etc I am working with companys also for outside gyms for all ages from 8 to 80. To be put on reg/grounds of the four parishs,I also would like to work with the D.D.C. AND the D.T.C. with them as well ,I went down to the D.T.C. some time ago about them, they said"They will get back to me"Sorry to say that has not happen. There is no cost to any of them for the background work I have already done or doing. Just doing it because I would like to see more free sports done for the public.

there used to be many footballer/cricketers, tended to die out in the early seventies.
in 1964 when west ham one the cup yet again, the goalkeeper jim standen topped the bowling averages for worcestershire later in the summer and geoff hurst played for essex second x1.
