Swearing an oath is a sign of worship.
Worship culture of a private family is not common only to Britain.
In North Korea the private family worship to Kim Jong I, Kim Jong II and now Kim Jong III is cultured by countless bill boards bearing the face of the worshiped person who requires sworn allegiance.

Here in the UK the Windsors are behind a culture of worship to themselves, they try to patronise charity in the same fashion as they are on stamps and money; they try to be the queens and princes of hearts in the same manner as they are acclaimed heads of the Church of England, of the Government, of the Army and indeed the whole State.

Incidentally, Peter, British sailors do not swear an oath of allegiance to Mrs. Windsor. The RN doesn't do it.
