To see English Football go to France!

  I might have mentioned before that through a quirk of fate, or more likely through the quirk of the new transmitter in Abbeville Northern France, yours truly is able to receive french television stations... I suppose being high up and all that. I dont know if any of you guys can.
  
  But while trawling through an endless variety of stations showing nothing at all just a few minutes ago, I eventually came across football on a french station. I realised I was watching a French station (called France 4) so I was thinking it was French football but after a few minutes of watching I twigged that it was English Football on screen..the FA Cup by the look of it.
  
  Yes...None other than workaday northern heroes Macclesfield Town against Bolton Wanderers being shown right across France.
  

  

  
  
  

  

  
  
  So here's the anomaly. Over in France they are enjoying English passionate cup football yet I trawled through all the stations available here and this game was/is not being shown this side of the channel. The game is still on as i write. Funny old world innit. Move to France and you can see all the English football you want! I guess the Sky monopoly here has denied us a great deal of football that we might otherwise easily enjoy...with an English commentary.

  when i had cable tv some years ago i used to get french and german channels where many english and other games featured.
  
  liked the german commentaries, just mentioning the player who last kicked the ball, none of the over the top analysis and waffle we put up with over here.
  
  interesting to note how so many countries have free to air matches when we have to subscribe to sky/espn.

  Once again a very big English match was available in France last night...for FREE. I checked this out with our own channels here and this match was only available to see here in the UK if you have a paid subscripition to ESPN. Through a freak or fluke Im able to see many French channels.
  
  Thierry Henry made a dream return to Arsenal. It was pure Roy of the Rovers stuff, where the older hero, recalled from the football graveyard, comes on as a substitute and scores the winning goal in the Cup Match.
  
  We used to read stuff like that in Boys Own, but glorious heroics took place last night again only this time it was for real. Here is a pic of the man himself after scoring the winner... unbelievable joy on the faces of the fans. And him being French...France 4 TV loved it as you can imagine.
  
  

  

  
  
  If you wrote a script like this nowadays nobody would believe it. Once again the British public are fleeced for our sport on TV.

  I am sure a pub landlady won her case in Europe to use a cheaply bought (Greek, I think) set-top box decoder in order to delight her customers.

  Agreed PaulB it was great to hear Thierry scoring the winning goal, I believe he is on a free 3 month transfer from an American soccer team. I've forgotten the name of the team that Roy of Rovers fame used to play for, does anyone remember?

  In them good old days top-flight players would be on the top deck of a corporation bus having their pre match puff on the way to the game and in the pub straight after.

  I have freeview Ron thats all Ive got. basic, nothing special. Im not sure why I get it all but the satellite dishes on the roof are clearly picking it up from Northern France. There is a new transmitter at Abbeville and ever since then....
  
  if I could only open a pub up here on the top floor I'd make a killing on match nights !!lol
