The further, the better. Certainly no loss to the people of Dover.

#4 We gone on quite well during my brief sojourn at Harbour House although I was never entirely convinced that he was interested in the facts. He had the good sense to conduct part of my interview in French to make certain I wasn't over-egging my CV! Bit of a weirdo though, for sure.

He and I got on fine until I started asking questions on DHB strategy and governance which he thought were none of my business. He regarded the organisation as a private fiefdom belonging to him and Goldfinger, and once totally and publicly lost his rag when I openly expressed the opinion at a DHB Workshop that his salary was excessive for the head of a public body, as defined by the Public Bodies Act of 2011. I have numerous anecdotal examples of his ‘difficult’ management style and his attempts to gag any dissenters within DHB, as well as evidence that union reps were singled out for ‘special’ treatment. During his tenure, Harbour House was nicknamed the Kremlin by many in the organisation.

#9 My word, your words ring true in my experience too. I would add that he was aided and abetted by Goldfinger's internal audit team who served as a coporate stasi rather than auditors in the normal sense of the term.
They had a series of files hidden on one server covering the history of corruption or alleged corruption of DHB staff in the award of various contracts to external contractors. I'm not going to name names but it's interesting to know how many local businesses prospered in their early years as a result of DHB patronage.
Once you gained acceptance into the DHB 'top' clique, then access to systems and data became open house. Quite a staggering approach to IT security for a company of their standing.

A tactic he could turn on and off like a tap and one which I saw used in Whitehall to good effect on civil servants who thought the "obvious" place for post-Brexit controls was in the Eastern Docks.

From what I have just read I feel sorry for the Falklands and explains why I had and still have very little respect for the way DHB behaves. It also reads as if he had the power of flattery when needed so he had Sue seemingly wrapped round his little finger.

His downfall came after the board engineered 360 degree assessments into all the top management t&cs requiring approval from those above and below them.
