10:3786578as a thought a what if post, well he we go.
in the past 10 years since the turn of the century we have had a long schirmish in the middle east, iraq and now afganastan,a recession and cut backs.with the first two costing around a billion pounds a day to fund, the question is if we didnt go to war in iraq or afganastan would wehave this recession now.
and before any one starts on about them being antiterrorist threats think again, president bush perswaded blair that saddam had wmds hidden somewhere in iraq,as it turned out a total lie and cost us dearly.as for afganistan another farce created by the yanks and costing us dear in money and lives.
plese check the words terrorists, wmd,and anti before posting.

10:4586579it seems the more wars we get involved with the more terrorists they breed.
the biggest threats to world peace at present are the governments of iran and the two koreas.

13:1586585I don't think the likes of Iran and North Korea are the biggest threats, if one them kicks off then the big powers (US, Russia, China, maybe even India and Pakistan) will gang up and sort them out.
The reason being, they know the biggest threats to world peace in future are going to be shortages - of energy, food, water and space for growing populations.
And with such a profound and depressing thought, it's gone noon so I'm hitting the cider.

13:5886588Recessions are cyclical so yes we would still have a recession. The UK structural deficit is nothing to do with the wars either, defence has in fact been under funded over the last 13 years, including extra spending from the reserves, and that is not likely to get better for at least 5 years.
