not related to the incident this pic was taken on the 23th december.
what caught my eye was that metal objects were beimng thrown from high up on the scaffolding in the direction of the truck below.
none of the people on the ground had hard hats and pedestrians were crossing the road to keep clear.

I did a course on health and safety on construction sites in 2010 and can assure you, Howard, that it is completely outside of regulations.
The fact that it's a public area makes it all the worse.

they havent worn hard hats the whole time they put it up.
I rang the company to discuss a teddy they had swinging from the scaffolding that was in the shape of a dog and it was causing distress to customers who thought it was a real dog which was being hung there.
Their attitude, not my problem and dont be soo silly its just a joke. I was totally unimpressed.
Thank goodness its coming down.

This practice of dismantling/striking a scaffold is common. There is a well on the truck between the stacks of boards to accommodate the clips/fittings and, as we can see in the picture, the area around the lorry is coned-off. One must allow that, no matter how oafish and ill-mannered they might be, they do know what they are about.
The chap half hidden at the corner represents the greatest concern. He clearly has been given the wrong type of ladder for the job. I am surprised that he is not surrounded by 'Claim Specialists'.
Point of trivia...
Scaffolding only became a bona fide Trade in 1970.

When we had the scaffolding removed from the house the scaffolders did not wear hard hats, steel capped boots and thick gloves were their only protection.

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

Perhaps a quiet word in the right ears....? Some builders and others in the trade get away with considerable discourtesy and shabby practice - it isn't fair on the others who are decent.

Thinking about the first posting, it may have been one of the metal objects that shattered my car's rear window, some time after that scaffolding had gone up.
I didn't notice it at first, but when I got in the car, closed the door, then all the glass fell in. I got out, looked around, looked up at the scaffold, couldn't see anything, so got back in and drove home very slowly. I haven't parked there since.

How annoying! It seems likely, Roger. Curses on them!

That is/was the problem Howard, but my insurance company and Autoglass ensured it was repaired the same day - expensive visit to Town that day, but at least I could use the car.

yes and of course whilst we all think that there are many health and safety regulations that are well out of date and not required.
the latest move by the govt to side step a lot of health and safety law will allow more and more employers to have shoddy workmanship. and dangerous
