- 30 September 2012 20:55193631We have been told for years there are decreasing numbers of cod in the sea, yet people still want to buy it! I am at a loss to understand why - do they not know there is other good fish to eat?
There are many other types of fish, most with more flavour (ie haddock, mackerel) to name two, and why isn't there a complete ban until numbers get back to a normal level ?---------------------------------------------------

The original 100 cod left story featured in the Mail, Telegraph, Sun and other outlets and was taken as gospel. Instead of fact checking the papers merely cut and pasted their copy onto an unsuspecting and gullible public. Much like the latest story from the BBC tonight on the news that climate change would lead to fish shrinking in size - it's totally untrue but some choose to believe all this tosh. It wasn't a joke by the Telegraph it was what they considered to be good journalism until they realised it was wrong. They even put a rider at the bottom of the article.

Go to the fjords of Norway or watch the King Crabbers in the Bering Sea on TV, they use big cod as bait for their pots and even the US, has big stocks of cod.
But, we do have a shortage here, only because we allow the French, Belgium and Spanish fleets, to land illegal undersized fish and over quoted amounts, from UK waters, into their countries. Whilst hammering our home grown UK fleet, with penalties and even prison.
