  I was thinking earlier what might be the cause of the next bout of mass hysteria which will infect the planet over the next few years once the climate change con has well and truly been consigned to the bin of historical international scares.
  So in the past we've had nuclear Armageddon following a nuclear winter resulting from an exchange of missiles from East to West and back again.
  We've had global cooling which was popular in the seventies where the world was about to freeze.
  Before that we've had other outbreaks of mass panic by the worried well of the world which caught hold and then simply vanished without trace except for a few hardened followers.
  The next one which we all know of is the forthcoming end of days sometime in December which will, of course, turn out to be a damp squib and we'll find that the date was wrong and the world will come to an end in ten years time.
  No what I would like to know is how the next mass panic will manifest itself. Will it be something to do with the poles reversing or a worry about tectonic plate movement, volcanoes, asteroids, something paranormal?
  Now that the global warming scare has reached it's peak something has to fill the void.
  Who will start the rumour? Will it come from a small clique of scientists with a seemingly far-fetched theory (think climate change) or from somewhere more unexpected?
