More importantly, we undervalue the "real" jobs - health care assistants, occupational therapists, carers, nursery nurses - all are paid a pittance for a crucial job. They may not need vast amounts of qualifications or a higher education, but it's the jobs that they do that count. Without them the country could not flourish. And, socialist though I am (and that doesn't necessarily mean I support "New Labour"!!) I am struggling to understand why, if they really want to support the disadvantaged, our government is trying to force people on benefits into jobs that are already taken by others, some not British. This isn't a "come over here taking our jobs etc" rant, I have no problem with immigration, it is a vital part of the world economy and an important part of our support for the vulnerable and threatened from other nations - but the point is, a high proportion of the rapidly receding job market is filled by people from other countries who are not burdened with the Benefits mindset, who haven't the disadvantage of coming from 3 generations of benefits families and don't know any different and haven't the role models. There is clearly a hidden (!) agenda at work, and that is politics at its lowest, frankly.
